Academic Details - Carey trained as an archivist at the University College London following a BA in Theology at Oxford University.
For 15 years she developed records management programmes with large public companies such as Rio Tinto plc (mining company) and MEPC plc (property development). For the last 6 years as an independent consultant, she has provided support on all aspects of records management to a wide range of organisations both public and private.
Key activities include:

- Surveying information created by organisations to provide accurate knowledge as to the content of the records and the amount of space used for current and non current records
- Establishing physical control over records through recommending appropriate storage of current and semi-current records and where necessary, transfer to the archives
- Establishing intellectual control over records by identifying information relevant to Data Protection legislation, Freedom of Information, Health & Safety documentation and other regulatory authorities to ensure those records can be located and are retained for the optimum time.
- Establishing protection and back up for the vital records contained within the collection and where necessary, transfer to the archives for their long-term preservation
- Advising on efficient management of electronic information especially the control of e-mail, indexing
- Reviewing existing staffing levels to ensure that adequate resources are available to implement policy recommendations that are agreed for the management of the organisation's records
- Providing training for staff in the records procedures established so the systems can be maintained in the future.
She is a member of the Society of Archivists and Records Management Society.
